Taught by Sarah-Jane Walls MPH, BSc (Hons), PgD, CpS


SJ has a Masters's Degree in Global Public Health, is HCPC registered Podiatrist, is a qualified Pilates teacher and is a Sports Massage Therapist. With 25 years Pilates teaching experience as mentored and taught Pilates teachers for the last 20 years. 


SJ is currently undertaking her PhD with a focus on biomechanics, diagnostic ultrasound and Rheumatology. SJ owns The Rehab Hub in Glasgow a multidisciplinary clinic and Pilates studio.  


As such the teacher training has a strong focus into leading into clinical Pilates. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & BACKGROUND

Course applicants must be 18 years old or over and must hold a minimum of a level 3 fitness qualification ideally Pilates, Sports Massage Therapy or Massage Therapy qualification. 

This course is also open to Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Rehabilitation Therapists, Sports Scientists, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Osteopathy or Chiropractic students in year 2 or above.

Pilates instructors and Yoga teachers. If you have a different background and are unsure if you qualify for this course, please contact us to check eligibility.

Prior to the course:

We recommend that you attend a minimum of 10 Pilates Reformer classes to familiarise yourself with Reformer and a range of class formats prior to starting Universal Reformer Part 1 of this course.

Assessment 
How you will be assessed:
  • Two assessments will be required to check learning on completion of course delivery, which includes delivery of a practical teaching session. 
  • Second assessment is the completion of your 100 hour logbook. 
  • Current CPR and or First Aid certifications is required before you start to teach (this is not provided on this course)

What is the course?
Universal Reformer Training 
In person practical with online learning before you attend. You will be given access to the online theory as soon as you purchase and then attend your practical days. We advise you attend Reformer classes prior to attending this course. 
This course is suitable for postgraduate CPD for: 

Manual Therapists, 
Sports Therapists, 
Health Care Professionals, 
Movement Teachers, 
Pilates Teachers and PTs (min level 3 certified) 

Universal Pilates Reformer 1, covers the fundamentals and introduction to Reformer a variety of beginner-level Pilates poses and techniques which will aid full body movement, strength, flexibility and balance awareness, all of which will be linked to postural awareness and education. 

Movements within a range of anatomical planes will be covered to provide a balanced and full-body, functional movement approach. Breathing techniques to both energise and relax the body will be explored.

Skeletal anatomy and physiology will be reviewed, along with progressions and adaptations to suit a range of needs. 

The physiology of stretching will also be reviewed along with methods for manipulating stretch modalities.

On completion of this course, you will be able to bring Pilates Reformer as part of your clinical work or if you are already a Pilates mat teacher this will allow you to teach Reformer Pilates classes.  

This course incorporates both theory and practical work. You can listen to theory content and video demonstrations in your student course hub area. You have lifetime access to this to look back on. 

How this course works:
You complete the online theory.
You attend practical training.
You complete your logbook of 100 hours of reformer classes, this needs to be a combination of shadowing classes, taking part in classes and team teaching. Your hours can be in our studio or another studio. 

As part of your training you will be allocated time with SJ to shadow and gain mentorship and team teach in classes to ensure you are fully prepared to then go on and teach full classes.  

During this time you will learn how to structure and plan your sessions and will receive mentorship during this process until you have completed. 

The mentorship time and 1-1 attention is one of the main values of this training.
