COURSE TUTOR

Meet Sarah-Jane Walls (SJ)

MPH (Masters Public Health), PgCert (Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound), BSc (Hons) (Podiatry), BSc (Sports Science), PgD (BodyMaster), CPS (Clinical Pilates Specialist) PhD Candidate.

Sarah-Jane Walls is a dynamic and accomplished professional with a unique blend of academic expertise and over 26 years of Pilates teaching experience.

With a BSc (Hons) in Podiatry and a BSc in Sports Science, SJ’s career bridges the worlds of movement science, biomechanics, and clinical practice. Her expertise is further enhanced by a Master’s in Global Public Health and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound, equipping her to integrate Pilates with rehabilitation and healthcare in innovative and impactful ways.

SJ’s Pilates journey began in 1999 when she trained as a fully comprehensive teacher. Mentored and inspired by the elder teachings of Kathy Grant, SJ brings a deep respect for the classical heritage of the Pilates method. Her teaching honors this rich tradition while offering instructors the flexibility to adapt the method for contemporary practice. She is dedicated to ensuring that new instructors develop a profound understanding of Pilates, with pathways to explore both modern applications and the classical format, should they choose.

As the owner of The Rehab Hub in Glasgow, SJ operates two multidisciplinary clinics and Pilates studios, where her programs are designed to guide instructors at every stage of their journey. The Universal Reformer Course is an ideal starting point for those new to Pilates equipment, providing a comprehensive foundation in its principles and applications.

For instructors aspiring to work in more therapeutic settings, SJ’s Clinical Pilates Training equips them to integrate Pilates into rehabilitation and healthcare environments effectively. Believing wholeheartedly in the power of mentorship and hands-on learning, SJ emphasises that “while online learning has its place, nothing compares to the depth and value of in-person mentorship. You will get out of it what you put into it.” This commitment to mentorship and support forms the cornerstone of her training philosophy, ensuring her students leave confident and well-prepared.

Currently pursuing a PhD focused on biomechanics, diagnostic ultrasound, and rheumatology, SJ is deeply involved in research and has presented at both national and international conferences. Her work blends her clinical expertise with a passion for movement and rehabilitation, contributing to advancements in both fields.

By integrating her academic background, decades of teaching experience, and reverence for the legacy of Kathy Grant, SJ inspires instructors to embrace the Pilates method fully. Her programs empower students to honor its heritage while applying it in contemporary and clinical settings, ensuring they have the skills, confidence, and knowledge to excel in their careers. SJ’s approach bridges tradition and innovation, shaping the future of Pilates and movement therapy for generations to come.
